Excerpt from Joseph Pence, Jr.'s Obituary:
Joseph was known as a kind and caring man who never turned anyone away.  In 1860 he was transacting business at the local infirmary when two little orphans, Horace Baker, age 12 and Henry Mitchell, age 7, who lived at the poor house (as it was then known) asked for a ride.  After getting permission from the Superintendant, they rode home with “Uncle Joe” as they called him and remained for supper. After returning them to their residence, he conferred with his wife Jane and the following day Joseph went back to the institution, made proper arrangements and brought the two boys back home with him.  Horace and Henry remained with the Pence family until they were of legal age and properly able to take care of themselves.39

Records and newspaper reports show Henry Mitchell (b. 19 Jan 1853 in Michigan) and his brother Isaac were abandoned by their mother at the railroad station in Urbana.  Henry stayed with Joseph's family until the late 1870s. (He appears in the 1870 Champaign County Ohio Census for Urbana, living with Joseph's family.)

He married Sally E. Kemp 02 Nov 1876 in Urbana then later they moved to Toledo.  He passed away 10 Apr 1918 and is buried in Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana.40  No records could be found for for his brother Isaac.
